Aching Hearts
Just as my husband drove off to pick my two big (real big) kids up for the winter holidays, and I had dropped cucumbers off at my little guy’s (not so little) middle school for community supper – such normal events – so taken for granted -I heard the news reports from Newtown, Connecticut. My heart broke. It is unimaginable to me what those families are going through. All day I felt crazy because I was crying, then furious, then crushed, then so grateful for my good fortune. When all my kids arrived home safe and sound last night, all I could do was hug them closer and feel my heart break again for the families in Newtown who have been so cruelly and senselessly robbed of their right to experience the joys, annoyances and pleasures of the simple daily life of families.
Warm southern wind blow softly here;
Green sod above lie light, lie light –
Goodnight, dear heart,
Goodnight, goodnight.
