My Hero: Andreas Möeller
We can’t all be heroes, because somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by. Will Rogers
So this post is me sitting on the curb and applauding for Andreas Möeller: http://www.moeller-hamburg.com/a/75-Flying-8-A-New-School-Of-Weaving.html
I initially gravitated to his work while searching for inspiring weaving. His color choices are dramatic and sophisticated. His collapse and textured structures are exciting.
So I searched his name to see if he had a website, and I found this story:
http://www.moeller-hamburg.com/c/Flying-8 about his work taking build-able, body-friendly, 8-shaft loom designs to weavers in the third world.
Above are towels woven in Ethiopia on the Flying 8 looms set up by Andreas.
So I sit on the sidelines applauding – applauding beautiful work, inspiring craftsmanship and fabulous spirit. Bravo!

HI, and he was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he is a big inspiration for all of us here who weave to sell. My weaving mentor and teacher Waltraud Hindlov is full of praise for him after meeting him in his studio in Hamburg, Germany.

Hi Marlene,
I read that about him. It is a small “handweaving” world in some ways isn’t it. I am trying to get out local Fiber Conference to invite him to talk – I would love to meet him.

Hi Lisa,
I am so pleased to see Andreas receiving this well-earned praise. I too love his work, and am so moved by his dedication to help other weavers who sorely need support. I listened/read the interview on his website – I’m so glad he didn’t give up on following his passion, despite the financial challenges. Thanks for spreading the word!

Hi Laurie,
Thanks for commenting. I was so excited to have stumbled across his work which caught my eye because of its beauty -then to read about him – truly inspiring.

Not only is Andreas Moller a wonderful weaver, but he’s a activist for less fortunate weavers in other countries in such practical and creative ways. I’ve been following his work for ages too and so here’s me sitting on the curb applauding. 😁
