Catch Up
I am going to write a quick catch-up bulletin to try to make up for my hideously unreliable blogging this last month. I am going to revisit the fulled 2/2 twill blanket with selvedge re-mediation soon. Guru Laurie Autio has promised to stop me from shooting myself in the selvedge again by reviewing my draft before I put 5 lbs. of yarn and 3 days into the next blanket.
In addition, I am enthralled with/a victim of/suffering from collapse in many forms: home, garden, body, etc. but more hopefully collapse weave. Above is a photo of a collapse weave scarf in Zephyr with a 60/2 silk weft. Flat on the loom – remove it – slight collapse – wash it – magic! Once again, I will sing the praises of The Best of Weavers: Fabrics That Go Bump. There are several not-to-be-missed articles on collapse weave with tips and tricks and guidance on sett, fiber size, etc. written by the weaving elite.
I have also posted photos of the woven shibori scarf I wove at Hill. It is adapted by Chris Hammel from a project in Catherine Ellis’ book Woven Shibori which explores woven shibori using supplemental warp threads. The scarf is off the loom and waiting for a dye day with dyeing guru Gail Callahan. (I really love having all these fiber-arts gurus in such close proximity!)
Finally, Check me out! I will be in a Schacht ad in Hand Woven Magazine. I might also get to be in an ad for Spin-Off. Who would’a thunk it? They took professional photos of the shawl I wove, but I really wish there had been a pro to make me look good. Oh well.
