Expectation Management
My highly successful brother-in-law once introduced me to the idea of expectation management. It is when you focus on your expectations as well as the outcome in order to have a successful result. So, I am practicing expectation management. Did my project turn out the way I had planned ? No. Is my project a soft, drapey, fine wool shawl? No. However, did I used clasped weft in an interesting way? Yes. Did I achieve interesting color interactions? Yes. And most importantly, did I sample and change my plans for the project instead of proceeding with an unsatisfactory piece simply because I had it all planned out in my mind? Yes.
So, I am deciding to think of this piece as a successful wall hanging rather than a failed shawl . . .
